Another busy week here at Room for Improvement. Daughter Emily is back from her cruise-ship travels for a month, so we're driving her to and fro, taking her to visit friends and family.
Meanwhile, son Scott has developed pneumonia and is now on strong antibiotics. He's decided not to come home to recuperate though, because the Queen's Arts-Sci formal for fourth-year students is coming up and he doesn't want to miss it. Classes maybe, but party, no way.
In between all the family bustle, we are making progress on our office overhaul. We've agreed on the aqua, black, white and silver colour scheme. We've ordered the wallpaper and blinds. Oh, and we're picking up the paint tomorrow and will finally be putting some on the walls this weekend.
Meanwhile, my husband Dean has begun disassembling the desk. Now, I thought this was going to be a relatively straightforward task, but it turns out that, as usual, I didn't really think it through. But Dean has a plan for getting a nice straight edge when he cuts the desktop in half. Once I see exactly what he's doing, I'll take a photo and pass along the instructions in the next column.
We've also got a plan for the desk legs that I think will be much better than just buying the off-the-shelf adjustable version. Instead, my father has offered to create wrought-iron legs for the front edge of the desktop. (The rear edge will be supported by brackets.) My father has built table bases, shelving and other pieces for us in the past, so I have no doubt that the legs will be a dramatic addition to the new office.
Now, we're off the to the lumberyard, ostensibly to pick up some material that Dean needs for the desk division. However, I'm already beginning to think about what I'd like to do in the backyard this summer, so I'll be wandering off in a different direction to look for inspiration. Stay tuned!
