Collingwood Shipyards wins Brownie award

November 28, 2009

The Collingwood Shipyards was recently named Best Large Scale Project by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) at its ninth annual Brownie Awards.

The honour was accepted by Fred Serrafero, vice-president of Fram at a gala event held in Vancouver.

"We are thrilled to receive The Shipyards' first Brownie Award in recognition of our commitment to the environment and the Collingwood community," Serrafero said. "We will be launching The Shipyards' green space to the public this spring and it will be a great chance to celebrate this wonderful environmental milestone with our friends and neighbours."

The Brownie Awards recognize leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability in brownfield redevelopment.

The Shipyards, a 600-unit mixed used development on the former site of the Collingwood Shipyards, will establish a public green space for local events, a wetland and fish habitat and pedestrian and bike trails that connect to the Niagara Peninsula.
