1930s

This 1930s-vintage Westinghouse refrigerator was originally purchased by my grandparents in Acton.

It was given a new motor in the early 1950s when Ontario switched from 25-cycle to 60-cycle current.

When my grandparents passed away, my father took it to his cottage around 1962.

It was moved to our cottage as a spare fridge in the 1980s and has run verywell every summer.

The older style refrigerators are able to handle power surges/brownouts and lightning strikes without damage.

On the May long weekend, I once again started it up — not bad for a 75-year-old fridge!

Three generations of the Hassard family have now used this wonderful Westinghouse.
