Look to New Zealand for some great new reds

We're always in the market for solid value Ontario wines. The great whites of Niagara now run $28 to $45 and top reds from $28 to $60, so it's nice to find affordable alternatives – in fact, two of them. The bargain winner is Château des Charmes' entry-level chardonnay, and the Stonechurch is a newcomer in a strange, edgy-topped bottle that's a real palate pleaser. And while everyone raves about New Zealand sauvignon blancs, many great reds are being sculpted in hotter regions of Kiwiland. The Roy's Hill does not hit you over the head with extract – it's gently seductive and slowly works its charms on you.
