Bundle up your home for winter

While November may have been unseasonably warm, those below-freezing temperatures can't be far off.

And, as with your favourite winter outfits, it's time to help your home ward off the chills with great layers and textures.

Windows: Remove your interior screens to keep that warm air moving and prevent condensation from forming on your glass. Then, seal gaps with caulking and weather stripping. Consider installing an insulating window film to keep even more cold air out.

Floors: Swap out summer sisal carpets and bare tiles for plush wool area rugs to add a comfy feel and protect your toes from a cold wake-up call.

Furniture: Chunky knit throws are a hot trend. A warming wrap looks gorgeous draped over a chair, sofa or ottoman. Add a fuzzy pillow for an even cozier space to hunker down on a cold winter night.

Lighting: While candles may not actually add degrees of heat, a flickering flame just makes your home feel even more welcoming when the snow starts falling.
