ReStore offers decorating deals that benefit charity

Whether it's a new set of lamps or a kitchen overhaul, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (on the web at www.habitat.ca/restoresc648.php) is a great "untapped resource" for those pre-holiday projects, says interior decorator Janice Clements. "It's just astounding to me what you find in there."

Clements, of Clements Interiors, says she's found fireplace mantles, new windows and doors and even full kitchens at budget-friendly prices. And, all proceeds help fund Habitat for Humanity projects.

While some of the donated items are ready to install, others will need some work. Clements offered tutorials on revamping ReStore wares at the Fall Home Show earlier this month – everything from spray-painting lamps to turning French doors into a headboard by replacing the glass panels with fabric.

Clements offers a few tips for the savvy shopper: shop often, check multiple locations and, when you do find something, "nab it while you can," because many of the items are one-offs.
