Are you a sucker for maple and bacon lollipops?

Want to wake up that staid Canadian candy-craver on your list with something quirky, but still have him or her saying, "This is tasty, eh?"

Try a maple-and-bacon lollipop – only if you added beer could it taste more Canadian – from the online candy folks at www.lollyphile.com.

It's hard candy on the traditional stick and contains real bacon bits (sustainably farmed, organic and cured) combined with real maple syrup. Regrettably, neither the bacon nor syrup comes from Canada (it's from Vermont) but this appears to be the only company of its sort offering these off-the-wall flavours. Owner Jason Lewis is selling a few hundred thousand annually.

The San Francisco Bay Guardian has given his candy company, which started in 2007, its Best Candy for Adults award. Two just-added flavours are Hyper Cola (caffeinated cola) and Real Coffee (caffeinated coffee). Other adult lollipop flavours include: Absinthe (sorry, no alcohol, just the distilled flavour), Bourbon, Chai Tea, Irish Cream, Wasabi-Ginger, Lavender and White Russian.

You can even order a boozy mix of absinthe, bourbon and white Russian flavours – a six pack, two of each flavour for $15 (all prices U.S.), with a shipping cost of about $6.

An order of four of any flavour costs $10, plus shipping. Hardcore candy lovers can order by the case (36 pops for $52).
