My Ugly Garden and I are saddened by our recent loss.

When I left the house the other day, I noted that M.U.G.'s cousin, My Ugly Front Garden, was blossoming full of life. The roses I never planted were out and looking wonderful, though crowded by a tall grass-like plant I thought I had "taken care of" years ago. The stonework was overgrown with life squeezing through for a taste of sunlight. And behind the grass-like plant, an abundance of things green had sprung up closest to the porch.

From the middle of the abundance, there sprang a wonder. I had noted it about a week ago, starting to rise majestically from the (need I say it) crowded overgrowth. About three days ago, I finally realized what I had on my less-than-green hands — one rather larger-than-life dandelion, just waiting to bloom its way into recognizable existence.

From where I stood on my walkway, it was definitely as tall as me — I stand 5'7" — though was quite possibly taller. I looked on in horror as it truly hit me — a dandelion! From the second floor balcony of my house, my friend Tim followed my gaze and laughed at me for having such a regal weed

Dismayed, I went inside and considered the fate of Taraxacum officinale – Tara for short. I had visions of me chopping away at Tara, ensuring Tara's fate never to bloom again. And then it hit me, perhaps Tara could be considered for The Guinness World Records! I envisioned a picture of Tara and I on newsstands around the world. People would come from far and wide to Tara towering before my porch. I saw fame and fortune.

Well, Tuesday, we lost Tara forever. I came home to find that my husband had made the executive decision to annihilate Tara's patch. M.U.G. and I need to take a moment of silence. Fame and fortune is not in the cards.
