Decorating your home can help relieve the stress of the winter months, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to do something special for yourself and your partner.
Make the dining table and setting the focal point of your romantic evening. A black and white colour palette with red and pink accents is both sentimental and visually stimulating.
Using existing items from your home, you can create an elegant and romantic interior with these simple tips:
— Add interest and sparkle to your place setting by tying a bit of ribbon around your napkins and embellishing it with a piece of costume jewellery, such as a rhinestone earring.
— Fill a decorative glass vase with soft satin ribbon, pearls and small rose buds.
— Fill picture frames with romantic images, such as hearts, made from Japanese or decorative paper.
— Use the same Japanese or decorative paper to make a personal Valentine’s Day card for your loved one, which can also act as a place card for the table.
— Rather than using your regular tablecloths and placemats, cover your dining table with lace fabric to create a textured and visually exciting backdrop for your place settings.
— Think outside the box when creating the centrepiece for your table. Instead of the typical vase with flowers, wrap small rosebuds (or another flower of your choice) and their stems around an interesting sculptural object.
— Spice up your table setting with attractive, tasty treats such as cupcakes, chocolates or cinnamon hearts. Choose treats that enhance the accent colour your picked for your place setting, such as pink or red.
— Add a personal touch to decorative pillows by wrapping a satin ribbon around the centre and fastening with a fabric flower or decorative brooch.
Hopefully these ideas help inspire you this Valentine’s Day. Remember, the most important part is to enjoy yourself and have fun with your special someone!
